Belarus Invasion Corridor 2022

Staging ground for Russia's war on Ukraine

In February 2022 Russian forces staged from Belarusian territory to strike toward Kyiv while Minsk denied co-belligerency and kept its own troops mostly off the assault. Airfields, rail, and exercises such as Allied Resolve converted the client state into an invasion platform.

Damage
Belarus provided territory, airspace, and logistics that enabled the northern axis of Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Lives lost
Ukrainian civilian and military dead on the northern front attributable in part to the Belarus corridor (component of wider war toll)

Record Points

  • Pre-invasion joint exercises masked force concentration on Ukraine's northern approaches.
  • Missile and air operations launched from or over Belarusian space hit Ukrainian targets.
  • Lukashenko publicly aligned with Kremlin war narratives while claiming limited direct combat roles.
  • Western sanctions expanded to punish facilitation without dissolving the Union State stack.
  • The corridor proved that Belarusian "neutrality" ended when Moscow required soil.
